Remain Contemptuous

Where are the fires in our streets?
Are there no fires in our hearts?
Around us the tinders lay scattered,
but where is the spark?
You put the pen to the paper
Heard it was stronger than the blade.
You brought the power to the people,
The people they tired and walked away.
Results never came.
You turned their bones & bricks to dust
The atmosphere concussed
You lost your mind
You lost their trust
And all you made was dust
Results never came.
Still what's to be done when powers that be
must be brought to their knees?
Can warrants be found to justify means such as these?
Burn it all away
Or turn and walk away
Results stay the same
Don't turn their bones or bricks to dust
Remain contemptuous
We want your mind
We need your trust
With the sum of us
The tide can be changed

No man's an island
Nothing is free
That face in the mirror
It's not really me
These idle words scrawled on the paper
Bare little meaning without a cipher
As Dead Hands try to reach out, take mine
and make my next move for me
I can't cave to them
though I want to just a little when I'm weak
as they pull against
My living will
Phased like the moon
High in the branches when I come home
Key turns the lock
Pale world explodes
Enter the realest world I've ever known
I am home

Proteus Effect

Where'd you get that line?
The one disguised as age old wisdom
It certainly has guile
Recited with a smile
But just beyond that sardonic veneer,
Set by fear,
Lies a mind so overcome,
A heart devoid of love.
You know what you meant. Don't mince your words.
So callous and so cold
Don't act so innocent.
May every weapon you forge with your tonge
Bite you when the tables turn.
It sounds so cliche, what I'm about to say
But it bears repeating anyway
Your fear is just self loathing you're unwilling to face.
It's not because you're weak.
You could see the truth if you really wanted to.
Don't shed crocodile tears while preying on people's fears
Just because you're afraid to hear
That the world's not like it one was
A simpler time when you and yours
Had it good while others suffered
Now you're scared they'll pull you under.
You've got nerve, nay gall, saying shit like that
From the comfort of your home
Don't act like you didn't
Others rail, they rave, they piss, they rant
For better lives for all
You're just a fucking bigot.
